Newport Beach Wealth Manager Gets Investment

Corient Capital Partners LLC, a Newport Beach-based wealth management firm with $3.1 billion of assets under management, said it received a minority, non-controlling investment from Merchant Investment Management LLC.

The firm intends to use the undisclosed amount of funds from New York City-based Merchant to “accelerate enterprise, professional leadership and platform growth.” Corient’s client list includes wealthy families, business owners, public company executives, private foundations and professional athletes.

“Corient has been one of the fastest growing wealth management firms since the company’s founding in 2015,” Chief Executive James Rooney said in a statement.

Prior to Corient, Rooney was CEO of Seattle-based wealth manager Freestone Capital Management, which manages $3.8 billion in client assets.
