Hybrid Apparel Nabs Hurley Licensing

Cypress-based Hybrid Apparel struck a licensing deal for Hurley International LLC women’s clothing.

The multi-year agreement means Hybrid, OC’s second largest apparel company with an estimated 750 workers locally, can design, make and sell Hurley-branded women’s clothing. Hybrid also hired Natasha Thomsen as vice president of women’s sales, global brands, overseeing the company’s retail accounts.

Nike Inc. sold Costa Mesa-based Hurley last year to New York apparel firm Bluestar Alliance LLC on undisclosed terms.

The acquisition was followed by 56 layoffs this year, which Bluestar CEO Joseph Gabbay said will help “implement a sustainable plan for long-term growth … we could not continue to replicate the prior [business] model” at Hurley.
