CSUF Center for Entrepreneurship Receives $550K Grant

Money will support CSUF’s emerging social enterprises

California State University, Fullerton’s Center for Entrepreneurship recently received a $550,000 grant from the state of California.

The money will support the center in expanding its startup incubator, so it can assist more “social enterprise” startups, which are companies that seek profit while maximizing social and environmental benefits.

“Fifteen years ago, our students wanted to be rich, get a home in Newport Beach and drive a Ferrari,” the center’s director, John Jackson, told CSUF News. “Today, students are looking to make improvements in our community, make the planet better and help people. There has been a shift from purely capitalistic new venture creation to social enterprises.”

The grant will also enable the center to develop online programs educating students on how to start social enterprise; create more online content, events and bootcamps for innovators and generate a curriculum that promotes social impact.
