Judge Upholds $382M Applied Medical Verdict Win

Denies Medtronic’s motion to overturn in court opinion issued Monday

A California federal judge has denied Medtronic’s motion to overturn a nearly $382 million jury verdict awarded to Applied Medical in an antitrust case.

The judge concluded that there was sufficient evidence to sustain the entirety of the jury’s verdict, according to the court opinion issued Monday morning.

Rancho Santa Margarita-based Applied Medical first sued Medtronic in 2023, accusing the larger rival company of trying to maintain a monopoly in the advanced bipolar devices market through discounted product bundles. A federal jury sided with Applied Medical in February, finding that Medtronic violated federal and state antitrust laws.
