Orange County’s unemployment rate rose to 3.4% in January, up from a revised 2.7% in December, according to the state’s Employment Development Department.
That compares to an unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.6% for California and 3.9% for the nation during the same period.
Between December and January, total non-farm OC employment declined from nearly 1.71 million to just over 1.68 million for a decrease of 24,700 jobs.
Trade, transportation, and utilities declined the most of any sector in Orange County, losing 6,800 jobs, the state EDD said in a statement today.
