Execs Honored at CFO of the Year Awards

The Business Journal held its 18th CFO of the Year Awards last week, honoring five outstanding financial professionals from Glaukos Corp., TOCA Football, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, QSC Audio and IHI Power Services Corp.

The recipients, recognized as corporate stewards for the preceding fiscal year, were selected from a total of 75 nominees during an evening ceremony held at the Irvine Marriott on May 8.

Murray Rudin, managing director of Irvine-based RLH Equity Partners, returned as the event’s master of ceremonies. Founded in 1982, RLH’s client portfolio includes mostly technology-based service firms such as Keystone Strategy, Astound Digital, MCA Connect and Red Clay Consulting.

Rudin has spent more than 20 years in private equity and has served as master of ceremonies at the Business Journal’s CFO awards ceremony for the past several years.

Without CFOs, Rudin said CEOs and CMOs would be running around “spending money like drunken sailors.” “It’d be chaos, a total disaster.”

The event’s five honorees were: n Alex Thurman, Aliso Viejo-based Glaukos Corp., recognized in the Public Company category. n Liyuan Woo, Costa Mesa-based TOCA Football, in the Private Company category. n Andrew Guarni, Newport Beach-based Hoag Hospital, in the Not-for-Profit Organization category. n Jared Callister, Costa Mesa-based QSC Audio, in the Rising Star category. n Tony Dabbene, IHI Power Services Corp., earned the Lifetime Achievement Award.
