Modern Times to Close Anaheim Leisuretown Concept

Mixed-use retail project was sole OC location for San Diego-based brewery

The ‘Leisuretown’ retail concept in Anaheim, developed by San Diego-based Modern Times, will close for good this Saturday.

Dubbed “part brewery, part restaurant, part swim club, part botanical wonderland,” the 33,000-square-foot site was one of the largest retail projects to open in Orange County in 2020 after four years of construction.

Leisuretown, Modern Times’ largest location and its first OC retail spot, was developed by Costa Mesa-based LAB Holding LLC about a block south of the Anaheim Packing District. Modern Times counts seven other outposts across California and in Oregon.

“While this has been deemed a necessary step to ensure the future of Modern Times as a whole, the promise of a brighter future does not diminish the difficulty of this moment, nor does it make it any easier for the many employees who will be affected by the closure,” company officials wrote online.

“This is a hard day, but we’re not done. Not by a long shot. More to come,” Leisuretown officials posted on social media after inviting the community to visit the location in its last week.
