Midday Stock Roundup

Markets pared back early morning gains as investors analyzed banks’ quarterly reports, digested retailers’ sales growth and waited to hear from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen later in the business day.

The S&P 500 was up 0.3 % to 2,139.67. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.5% to 18,189.80. The NASDAQ was up 0.3 % to 5,227.46.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond increased 1.4% to 1.76%.

The price of gold was down 0.1% to $1,256.

HEALTH CARE

Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. was down 1.7% to $116.67 and a market cap of $24.8 billion. The maker of products to treat heart disease plans to announce third quarter results after the markets close on Oct. 25.

RESTAURANTS

Huntington Beach-based BJs Restaurants Inc. was up 0.6% to $34.84 and a market cap of $844 million. The casual restaurant dining chain plans to announce third quarter results after the markets close on Oct. 19.
