ARCHITECTURE

Joseph Smart has been named principal in charge of the Newport Beach office of MBH Architects Inc. Smart previously worked at MBH’s Alameda headquarters. He’s now in charge of MBH’s Southern California operation.

Elizabeth Cera, former director of marketing for both the Alameda and Newport Beach offices, has been named MBH’s director of business development for the Southern California region.

BANKING

First Banc Home Mortgage Inc. promoted Cheryl Miller to assistant vice president. Miller, a resident of Placentia, will be responsible for general office management.

First Bank & Trust appointed Richard Reid to senior vice president and regional manager. Reid will oversee the commercial banking division from the company’s Newport Beach office.

BUSINESS SERVICES

William N. Makshanoff has been appointed manager of building and safety services for Berryman and Henigar’s Southern California division in Santa Ana. The municipal services firm is headquartered in San Diego

The Association for Information Management Professionals elected Juanita M. Skillman of Fountain Valley president of its international organization in 2002-2003. Skillman is the records manager for the Orange County Sanitation District.

CONSTRUCTION

Richard P. Douglass has been promoted to president of Centex Homes’ south coast division. Douglass has been with the company since 1997 as vice president of land development.

H.F. “Rick” McCourt, director of safety at Sukut Construction Inc., has been certified as a construction and safety technician.

DESIGN

Catalina Design Group of Irvine hired Suzanne Sisk as interior designer. Sisk graduated magna cum laude from the Savannah College of Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design.

GEOLOGY

Michael Cassidy has joined Irvine-based Gradient Engineers Inc. as a senior project hydro geologist. He will conduct aquifer flow modeling and biodegradation studies.

Susan P. Jennings, project engineer and geologist for Sukut Construction, was named a certified engineering geologist by the California Board of Geologists and Geophysicists.

HEALTH CARE

Saddleback Memorial Medical Center announced its 2002-2003 board of directors. Former Laguna Hills mayor Melody Carruth will be chairperson of the board, while the hospital’s medicine department chief, John Schuetz, will serve as vice chairman. Nancy Kirkpatrick, president of the Saddleback Valley Unified School District’s Board of Education, also will serve on the board, along with entrepreneur Simon John Whitmey and Laguna Woods resident Robert Miller, who will function as the board’s secretary.

Critical care specialist Jerald Stafford of San Clemente has been appointed to the board of directors of Saddleback Memorial Foundation, the fund-raising arm of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. Stafford is medical director of the intensive care unit at the new Meiklejohn Critical Care Pavilion.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Towers Perrin Forster & Crosby Inc. in Irvine named Michael Fox managing principal and market leader of the Southern California region. Fox, a Newport Beach resident, will advise clients on rewards and benefits strategies and retirement plans. He will be responsible for offices in OC, Los Angeles Phoenix and San Diego. Towers Perrin is a management and human resources consulting firm.

REAL ESTATE

Tyler Parks joined Tustin-based Coreland Cos. as a leasing and sales associate in its brokerage office here.

UTILITY

Santa Ana-based National Water & Power appointed Robert E. Wolpert as executive vice president and chief operating officer of its billing services business unit.
