UCI today announced the appointment of Dr. Michael Stamos, current dean of the School of Medicine, as interim vice chancellor of health affairs, effective July 15.
Stamos will succeed Dr. Steve Goldstein, who announced in May that he accepted the role of president at the University of New Mexico. Goldstein joined UCI in 2019 and served as vice chancellor of health affairs for the past seven years.
“I look forward to the challenges and opportunities of the position and to building on the foundation that has been established by Steve Goldstein and others,” Stamos told the Business Journal.
Stamos will continue to serve as dean of the School of Medicine, according to UCI.
“Dr. Stamos has also been a key contributor to the success of UCI Health, our health delivery system, and as a partner across UCI by actively fostering collaborations within and beyond the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences,” Chancellor Howard Gillman said in a statement.
