Rivian Automotive Inc. on Thursday revealed that the first edition of its new R2 mid-size electric vehicle, dubbed R2 Performance, will start at $57,990.
The company also reported lower prices for upcoming configurations of the R2; a premium edition is scheduled to arrive in late 2026 starting at $53,990 and standard configurations with a base price of $48,490 will follow in the first half of 2027.
A lower-priced standard R2 — previously pegged at $45,000 — isn’t expected until late 2027. The Irvine automaker has said it designed the R2 to offer “a more accessible price point” than its R1 predecessor, which has a base price of roughly $90,000.
The debut edition of the R2 has 656 horsepower, 609 lb-ft of torque and can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds, according to Rivian.
“R2 embodies so many of our learnings that we have accumulated—the passion and attention to detail from our team is visible everywhere,” Founder and Chief Executive RJ Scaringe said in a statement.
The EV maker said it will begin deliveries of the debut R2 this spring with a limited edition “launch package” that includes an exclusive, exterior color option and Rivian’s Autonomy+ platform for the lifetime of the vehicle.
Shares were down 3.8% to $16.01 apiece during midday trading with a market cap of nearly $20 billion (Nasdaq: RIVN).
