The S&P 500 rose 0.07% to 1,554.76 in midday trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.05% to 14,557, while the Nasdaq was off 0.20% to 3,212.20.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was down 2.43% to 1.77%.
The price of gold fell 0.36% to $1,547.90 per ounce.
Shares of Huntington Beach-based restaurant operator BJ's Restaurants Inc. were up about 3% to $32.47 for a market value of $908.89 million. Restaurant operators were generally up in afternoon trading. BJ’s announced the opening of a new restaurant earlier this week and reiterated a growth plan that could see as many as 17 restaurants open this year.
Shares of Irvine-based professional services company Resources Connection Inc. fell about 4% to $11.47 for a market value of $471.14 million. Resources Connection earlier this week reported lower-than-expected revenue for its third quarter, ended Feb. 23.
Shares of Irvine molecular diagnostics company CombiMatrix Corp. shot up about 14% to $3.95 on news that the company expects to report record growth in prenatal testing for the quarter ended March 31. Quarterly results for CombiMatrix, which had a recent market value of $4.24 million, are expected early next month.
