The Nasdaq rose 0.13% to 2,981, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.26% to 12,933.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was off 0.72% to 1.65%.
The price of gold was down 0.43% to $1,744 per ounce.
Shares of Irvine-based disk drive maker Western Digital Corp. fell about 2% to $35 for a market value of $8.5 billion. Computer hardware makers were generally down on Tuesday.
Newport Beach-based Acacia Research Corp. rose about 3% to $22 for a market value of $1.1 billion.
