Shares of Irvine-based chipmaker Broadcom Corp. rose 8.46% to $33.37 to a market value of about $18.5 billion.

Aliso Viejo-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp. was up 6.4% to $17.77. Microsemi has a market value of about $1.6 billion.

Irvine-based device maker Edwards Lifesciences Corp. gained nearly 6% to $104.56, with a market value of about $12 billion.

Shares of Anaheim-based drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. tumbled 16.85% to $37.03 to a market value of about $2.5 billion after missing sales expectations for its flagship drug Acthar.
