The Nasdaq was down 1.11% to 2,932.99, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.91% to 12,825.11 in midday trading.

The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was down 4.16% to 1.45%.

Gold prices rose 0.13% to $1,583.50 per ounce.

Larger public companies, with a market value of $500 million or more, were down in midday trading.

Shares of Newport Beach-based Acacia Research Corp. were down 14.82% to $33.86. Acacia, which is a patent licensing company, had a recent market value of $1.7 billion.

Shares of Santa Ana-based data analytics company CoreLogic Inc. were up 2.2% to $20.92 to a recent market cap of $2.2 billion.
