The S&P 500 rose 0.20% to 1,439 in midday trading Thursday.
The Nasdaq was up 0.08% to 3,047, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.19% to 13,277.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was down 0.67% to 1.79%.
The price of gold was off 1.40% to $1,643 per ounce.
Shares of Newport Beach-based Acacia Research Corp. were up about 3% to $25 for a market value of $1.2 billion. The company announced a license and settlement agreement on Thursday for its Gametek LLC subsidiary with several companies. The agreement resolves litigation that was pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Irvine-based medical device maker Masimo Corp. was up about 3% to $21 for a market value of $1.2 billion. Masimo said on Wednesday that Ogden Regional Medical Center in Utah has adopted its rainbow Pulse CO-oximetry devices, which test patients’ blood without the use of needles, as its standard technology in its hospital.
