The S&P 500 was up 0.61% to 1,399.43.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was off 2.41% to 1.54%.
The price of gold rose 0.4% to $1,615.70 per ounce.
Anaheim-based drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up 8.18% to $38.07 after an analyst upgraded the company's stock from neutral to buy. Questor had a market value of about $2 billion.
Shares of Costa Mesa-based computer products maker Emulex Corp. rose 5.87% to $6.76. The company had a recent market value of $586 million.
Newport Beach-based networking chip maker Mindspeed Technologies Inc. was up 8.92% to $2.93 to a recent market value of $113 million.
Shares of Irvine-based Pro-Dex Inc. rose 8.93% to $1.83. Pro-Dex, which makes medical devices and provides manufacturing services for the medical, dental and other industries, had a recent market value of $6 million.
Irvine-based TigerLogic Corp. was up 9.13% to $2.01 to a market value of about $57 million.
