Vizio Nabs Four-Year Rose Bowl Presenting Sponsorship

Irvine’s Vizio Inc., which designs and markets low-cost digital TVs, is set to be the presenting sponsor of the Rose Bowl from 2011 to 2014.

The last year of the package includes the BCS National Championship Game, when millions tune in across the globe.

It also will coincide with a massive $152 million renovation project at the historic Pasadena stadium, which will be completed before the college football championship.

The Rose Bowl typically pits the winners of the Big Ten and Pac-10 conferences against each other.

It is the oldest bowl game in college football.

Vizio, which designs and markets digital TVs and related accessories, has a long history with Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN, sponsoring the network’s flagship program “SportsCenter” as well as other college football broadcasts.

For years, Vizio employed former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson as the company’s top pitchman.

The game will be known as the Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio, while the 2014 contest will be called the 2014 Vizio BCS National Championship Game, according to ESPN.

As part of the deal, Vizio will have logo rights for product packaging and all Rose Bowl-related events.

Financial terms were not disclosed. These high-profile sponsorships easily fetch millions of dollars.

Last year, Vizio joined a handful of Orange County companies that shelled out big bucks to advertise in a 30-second Super Bowl spot.

Singer and actress Beyonce Knowles-Carter was featured in the Super Bowl commercial. She signed a three-year deal to endorse the company’s products.

Vizio also has advertised during NBA games and in popular sports video games developed by Redwood City-based Electronic Arts Inc., maker of the “Madden NFL” and “Tiger Woods” games.
