Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 rose 0.76% to 1,829.40 in afternoon trading Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.78% to 16,152.14, while the Nasdaq was up 0.74% to 4,029.48.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.95% to 2.64%.

The price of gold was up 0.64% to $1,327.50 per ounce.

HEALTHCARE

Irvine heart valve maker Edwards Lifesciences Corp. was up about 12% to $81.94 after it announced Friday that a U.S. District Court judge granted a preliminary injunction on U.S. sales of rival Medtronic Inc.’s CoreValve. Edwards had a recent market value of $8.79 billion.

TECHNOLOGY

Irvine disk drive maker Western Digital Corp. was up about 2% to $89.95 for a market value of $21.25 billion. A Wall Street Journal report on Sunday said that even with PC sales falling, Western Digital and Cupertino rival Seagate Technology Inc. stand to benefit from the move to the cloud with data centers still in need of storage.

Seagate was up about 3% to $54.98 for a market value of $18.07 billion.
