Indexes decreased on fading hopes of a new stimulus bill.
The S&P 500 fell 0.6% to 3,468.34 in midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slumped 0.3% to 28,440.05 while the Nasdaq ticked down 1.2% to 11, 631.17.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was flat at 0.722%.
Oil fell 0.8% to $40.71.
The price of gold decreased 0.01% to $1,907 per ounce.
REAL ESTATE
Irvine-based hospitality REIT Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. (NYSE: SHO) shares were up 4% to $7.76 with a $1.7 billion market cap. The company said in August it had 10 of its 19 hotels open, and expected to reopen several hotels in both August and September. The company said it will report third-quarter earnings on Nov. 5.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based diagnostics firm Oncocyte Corp. (NYSE: OCX) saw its shares fall 9.7% to $1.58 with a $106 million market cap. Shares in the cancer test maker have fallen in half since the end of June when it announced it would cease work on one of its main test lines.
