Gold ticked 0.1% higher to $1,987.20.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond surged 5.6% to 0.57%.
Aliso Viejo-based The New Home Company (NYSE: NWHM) jumped 14% to $3.95 and a $72 million market cap. The homebuilder reported on July 31 reported that June net orders increased 68%, the highest monthly total in company history.
Shares of Costa Mesa-based El Pollo Loco Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: LOCO) fell 8% to $18.18 and a $640 million market cap. Shares on July 31 rose 15% following second quarter revenue and earnings that topped analyst estimates.
