Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 was down 0.5% during midday trading to 3,217.28, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq ticked down 0.6% apiece to 27,395.79 and 9,985.24, respectively.

The yield on the 10-year bond fell 6.4% to 0.83%.

Crude oil decreased 0.9% to $37.86.

Gold was up 1% to $1,722.

RESTAURANTS

Orange County restaurant stocks were hit during Tuesday midday trading along with the S&P 600 restaurant index, which was down 3.3% to 1,186.25.

Losses were led by Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: BJRI), which dipped 5% to $26.73 and a $595 million market cap. Del Taco Restaurants Inc. (Nasdaq: TACO), based in Lake Forest, was down 4.4% to $7.20 and a $267 million market cap; and Costa Mesa-based El Pollo Loco Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: LOCO) decreased 2.2% to $15.05 and a $556 million market cap.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG), meanwhile, was flat at $1,051.05 and a $29.3 billion market cap.

TECHNOLOGY

Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq: VERI) saw the largest stock increase among OC companies during midday trading, rising 8.8% to $13.72 and a $375 million market cap. Shares for the Costa Mesa firm, which is trying to break into the artificial intelligence for media market, have more than doubled in the past month and are near their 52-week high of $14.54.
