The S&P 500 was down 0.5% to 3,106.7 at midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3% to 26,204.3.
Nasdaq declined 0.6% to 9,623.5.
Crude oil rose 0.2% to $37.36 a barrel.
The price of gold increased 1.2% to $1,724.40 an ounce.
The yield on a 10-year bond increased 6.7% to 0.8%.

Emerald Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: EEX) soared 17.8% at midday trading to $3 a share with a $212.9 million market cap. The stock price of the San Juan Capistrano producer of trade shows is still down about 77% since early February.
Veritone Inc., (Nasdaq: VERI) rose 9.8% to $13.20 a share with a $358 million market cap. Costa Mesa-based Veritone, which is trying to break into the artificial intelligence for media market, two days ago released a report that said television producers are embracing AI with over half of respondents to the survey intending to further implement the technology.
