Fears over the coronavirus continued to weigh heavily on U.S. indices Friday.
The S&P 500 was off 2.4% to 2,908.17 in midday trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 2.9% to 25,046.22, while the Nasdaq slipped 1.8% to 8,413.76.
Crude oil sank 4.8% to $44.81 a barrel.
The price of gold fell 4.2% to $1,574.20 an ounce.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond slipped 9.8% to 1.17%.
HEALTHCARE
Shares of Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) fell 5.4% to $201.46. The Irvine-based company, Orange County’s largest publicly traded firm, had a recent market cap of $42 billion.
San Clemente-based Glakuos Corp. (NYSE: GKOS) shares sank 30% to $43.21, a day after reporting fourth-quarter results. The company had a recent market cap of $1.9 billion.
