Visitor & Convention President Ahlers to Retire

Charles Ahlers plans to retire from his post as president of the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau at the end of this year.

Ahlers has been president of the regional group since 1992. He spent seven years as convention sales manager prior to becoming president.

“I have been fortunate to be able to realize many accomplishments during my four-decade career in this industry,” Ahlers said in a statement. “This Anaheim Resort community and all of Orange County have evolved into a leading leisure and business destination, and I’m very pleased to have played an active role in shaping what it is today.”

The bureau will conduct a search for Ahler’s successor in coming months. It said Ahlers is expected to remain affiliated with the group as adviser and “continue to be instrumental in the current development of the Anaheim Convention Center and the Grand Plaza,” an outdoor venue that’s expected to open next year.
