Newport Beach Developers Respond on Ports O’ Call Renovation

Two Newport Beach-based developers are among eight that have expressed interested in redeveloping the Ports O’Call Village, a restaurant and retail development owned by the Port of Los Angeles.

The port issued a request for qualifications this summer as part of a search for a company that will bring a fresh look and more tourists to Ports O’Call in the San Pedro district.

Responses were due Oct. 5.

Battaglia Inc. and Strata Properties, both in Newport Beach, responded. They were joined by Ed Roski’s Majestic Realty Co. in City of Industry; Cal-Coast Companies in Los Angeles; Rising Realty Partners in Los Angeles; McArthurGlen Group in London; Sonnenblick Development LLC in Pacific Palisades; and LA Waterfront Alliance, an entity likely set up specifically to bid on the Ports O’Call project.

The port has so far released only the names of the developers, without details of their submissions.

A committee of port staff and advisors will review the companies’ qualifications and recommend one to the Harbor Commission, likely by the end of the year.

Port officials hope to lease 30 acres of waterfront property to the chosen developer, which will be able to build up to 300,000 square feet of restaurants, shops and other attractions on the site.
