Walt Disney Parks and Resorts notified the state Employment Development Department on Jan. 15 it will lay off 85 employees from a Fullerton location, effective May 29.
The workers made costumes for Disneyland Resort characters by hand at the facility, for company’s two parks in Anaheim and some of its properties overseas.
The work will move to Florida to make use of new technology and a larger facility that has warehouse and distribution operations.
“Over the next five months, we will transition a portion of our costuming support services to our Orlando facility to better support future innovation,” according to a spokesperson for Disneyland Resort, “We will assist affected cast members in finding other opportunities.”
Some costuming locally will also still be done at the resort.
