Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 was up 1.4% to 3,670.86 during midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.9% to 29,901.65.

The Nasdaq climbed 1.4% to 12,373.02.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond surged 7.9% to 0.911%.

The price of gold increased 2% to $1,816.40.

The price for a barrel of oil fell 1.5% to $44.67.

MANUFACTURING

Foothill Ranch-based metals maker Kaiser Aluminum Corp. (Nasdaq: KALU) rose 10.3% to $85.99 a share for a market cap of $1.4 billion. Earlier in the day Moody’s Investors Service said Kaiser Aluminum’s acquisition of Alcoa’s Warrick Mill operations is credit positive.

TECHNOLOGY

Artificial intelligence company Veritone Inc. in Costa Mesa fell 3% to $25.81 a share for a market cap of $712 million, retreating from a surge of 25% the day before. The company had announced a major innovation to its aiWARE operating system on Monday.
