Irvine-based Red.com Inc.’s Red Digital Cinema Camera Co. added another Hollywood film credit.
The company’s Epic cameras are being used to shoot Hitchcock, a biographical drama about the making of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie Psycho that went into production last month.
Sasha Gervasi is directing a cast topped by Anthony Hopkins, as Hitchcock, along with Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel.
Red’s cameras shoot motion pictures or still images at resolution on par or better than traditional 35-millimeter film. They are made in Irvine and generally sell for significantly less than competitors such as Arri Group, Canon and Panasonic.
Red has gained a growing following in the film industry, with the latest film adding to a list of credits that includes The Hobbit, Prometheus, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Great Gatsby and The Amazing Spiderman.
Hitchcock, a production of Montecito Picture Co., will be released next year by Fox Searchlight Pictures. The film is being shot at Red Studios Hollywood, the company’s production facility in Los Angeles.
