Illinois-based Walgreens Inc. laid off 63 workers in Anaheim.
They were former employees of Anaheim-based Crescent Healthcare Inc. The layoffs follow Walgreens’ purchase of Crescent, with a spokesperson for the drug-store chain reportedly attributing the job cuts to an “integration process” following the acquisition.
Cresent specializes in chronic-infusion therapies and has operations in more than 30 states.
It also provides patients with nursing and pharmacy services, according to its website.
Walgreens notified the state of the layoffs, as required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The legislation stipulates requirements for companies following takeovers of other businesses.
Walgreens closed on its purchase of Crescent Healthcare—from Chicago-based Frontenac Co. and other owners for $75 million—on Feb. 14.
