Blizzard’s eSports League Signs Twitch Deal

Overwatch League matches will be broadcast on Twitch, the two said today.

The League is an eSports gaming venture created by Blizzard Entertainment in Irvine around one of its online multi-player games. Blizzard is in Irvine; parent Activision Blizzard Inc. is in Santa Monica.

Activision Blizzard bought eSports league Major League Gaming in 2016 for an estimated $40 million to help it build such ventures.

Overwatch League has 12 teams of gamers in cites in North America, Europe, and Asia, with franchises selling for an estimated $20 million apiece.

Twitch is a “social video service and community”—a web-based video broadcast site with social media—and is owned by Amazon.com Inc. in Seattle.

Games broadcast on Twitch will stream in English, Korean, and French, a release said.
