PATTY AND RICK ARVIELO
CO-FOUNDERS
NEW AMERICAN FUNDING
WHO: Owners of New American Funding, a Tustin-based mortgage lender that in recent years had been one of Orange County’s fastest-growing private companies. An LLC headed by New American’s co-founder, Rick Arvielo, in February paid $31M for One MacArthur tower, a nine-story office building in Santa Ana’s South Coast Metro area.
WHY: Longtime supporters of Vanguard University in Costa Mesa.
IN THE NEWS: Vanguard named the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management in April 2023. It is the first school of business in the United States to be named after a Latina.
NOTABLE: A surprise unveiling of the new school’s name took place for what was termed an “unsuspecting” Patty Arvielo and nearly 800 cheering students, faculty, staff and supporters—a “take your breath away” moment for both the Arvielos and the Vanguard community.
IN THEIR WORDS: “I’ve never been so surprised in my life. For someone who didn’t think she was smart—or fit the profile of what smart means in America—my story is important, and I share it to empower you.” —Patty Arvielo
