UCI Exceeds $1B in Gifts for Brilliant Future Campaign

The University of California, Irvine announced today it has raised more than $1 billion for advancements in healthcare, innovation and the arts, in addition to support for first-generation college students.

The milestone marks the halfway point for UCI's $2 billion philanthropic campaign, called Brilliant Future, which will come to an end in 2024. It's the second time UCI has raised over $1 billion from donors.

“During one of the most challenging health crises in recent times, it’s inspiring to see that the generosity of our UCI alumni and friends has not only endured but intensified,” Chancellor Howard Gillman said in a statement.

In 2020, giving increased by more than 40% for student support. In addition, gifts totaling $1 million or more increased 15%. The outlook for 2021 is optimistic, the university said.

"My guess is when we close the two, we just go for three, right?" Jimmy Peterson, UCI Foundation trustee and Brilliant Future campaign chair along with his wife, Sheila, told the Business Journal last month.
