Orange County’s retail and restaurant landscape continues to reflect the focus on storefronts selling one-of-a-kind, artisan offerings.
Costa Mesa developer Lab Holding LLC announced a May 31 grand opening for its Anaheim Packing House.
The food hall, in the former Sunkist citrus packing warehouse on Anaheim Boulevard, will offer vendors selling Indian, seafood and Italian food along with businesses offering juices, baked goods and tea.
Lab Holding’s The LAB antimall got a new tenant in men’s and women’s fashion boutique The Celect. The store, run by Carrie and Murphy Martines, carries various labels from Paris and Stockholm to New York and Los Angeles.
Meantime, Mike and Sarah Dowdell will hold a grand opening party on April 3 for their clothing and accessories boutique, Scouts Honor, located in the Woodbury Town Center in Irvine.
Irvine-based footwear brand Sanuk will give the same feel outside OC. It is one of several brands owned by Goleta-based Deckers Outdoor Corp. that will be in Deckers’ first “brand showcase” store at its Santa Barbara County headquarters. Sanuk will be displayed alongside Ugg and Teva among other brands. Custom orders can be made through iPads.
Restaurants
Local restaurant chains continue making their own moves to gain market share.
Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. opened an 8,500-square-foot restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas bringing its chain to 148 locations.
Irvine-based Habit Restaurants LLC will open a Habit Burger Grill in Upland on April 2, making it the chain’s 89th location.
Meantime, health-conscious consumers have one more of Rancho Santa Margarita-based Bowl of Heaven’s shops to choose from. The company opened its 6th location earlier this year in Newport Beach.
OC Expansion
Sweet Arleen’s franchisee Toren Halseth is set to open the chain’s first OC location in Yorba Linda in 2015. The Westlake Village-based cupcake chain said it’s also eyeing San Clemente, Mission Viejo, Irvine, Newport Beach, Anaheim and Laguna Beach for expansion locally over the next three years … Pasadena gourmet hot dog and sausage chain Dog Haus is set to open its first Orange County location at Westfield MainPlace mall in Santa Ana later this year through franchisee Ryan Welch … New Jersey sub sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s opened a Fullerton location Wednesday through franchisee Clarissa Palomaria.
