Irvine smart locker provider Parcel Pending had a record year in 2020 as the pandemic fueled a rise in demand for contactless delivery options.
Parcel Pending, owned by France-based Quadient Inc., helps commercial, retail, university and residential properties manage deliveries via their smart locker systems.
CEO and founder Lori Torres said in a statement “last year was unlike anything this nation has ever seen before in terms of total online purchases and year-round, high package volumes.”
The company finished the year with locker installations about doubling, driven by notable new business from companies such as Lowe’s. The deal with the home goods chain resulted in Parcel Pending locker installations at the retailer’s more than 1,700 stores in the U.S.
In December alone, the company said it processed nearly 4 million packages, which is up 46% from the year-ago period. Installations during that month tripled from a year ago.
Elsewhere, the business also saw installations of refrigerated lockers rise, in addition to growth in the college segment.
