South Coast Plaza Gets Creative With Latest Shopping Amenity

South Coast Plaza on Friday is set to debut The Pavilion in a bid to offer an upscale, in-person shopping experience.

The open-air suites, of which there are 14, accommodate restrictions put in place by the state that re-shuttered businesses such as indoor malls, while also maintaining strict levels of health and safety protocols.

Indoor operations of restaurants, museums and malls were among the businesses ordered last month by the state to re-close their doors in a bid to stem the rising cases of COVID-19.

The Pavilion requires all guests and workers wear masks. Social distancing is enforced and suites are disinfected before and after each visit.

The latest amenity from the Costa Mesa shopping center is by appointment only and offered only through participating boutiques of which there are more than 100. Participating brands range from luxury and contemporary to department stores and beauty. Givenchy, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Madewell, Nordstrom, Victoria’s Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch and Free People are among the brands offering appointments through The Pavilion.

The suites are outfitted with fitting rooms and Wi-Fi.

The Pavilion is located in South Coast’s North parking structure, closest to Bristol Street near the Nordstrom side of the center.

It joins the center’s already operating SCP 2 Go curbside pick-up program, which offers services through more than 120 retailers and restaurants. Boutiques and all department stores with their own entrances that do not require passage through the indoor portion of the center are also operating.
