Oakley Set to Debut High-Tech Goggles

Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc. is set to begin selling a new snow goggle that’s capable of displaying information for the wearer on the inside of lenses.

Sales are expected to begin on Wednesday.

The goggles use GPS and Bluetooth to allow wearers to view jump statistics, their own location or that of friends, and incoming calls and texts from smartphones, among other data. The information is displayed on a portion of the lenses.

The goggles are controlled through a wireless remote that can be attached to the body or the goggle itself.

Airwave will launch with two styles priced at about $600 each.

The goggles will be sold at Oakley stores and through the company’s website in addition to other retailers, including select Apple stores. It is the first time Oakley is selling its eyewear through Apple and Apple.com.

Oakley, part of Italy-based Luxottica Group SpA, makes and sells sunglasses, goggles and prescription frames as well as clothing, shoes and accessories.
