Sunstone Gets New CEO

Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. president John Arabia has been appointed chief executive of the Aliso Viejo-based company.

Arabia succeeds Ken Cruse as CEO of Sunstone, which counts a market value of $3.6 billion.

The company owns 30 hotels totaling 14,303 rooms across the country, including the Fairmont Newport Beach.

Cruse, who led the company for four years, has left the company and “will be pursuing other opportunities and has resigned from his position on the board,” the company said in a statement.

Arabia joined Sunstone in 2011 and was promoted to president in 2013. Prior to joining Sunstone, he served as managing director of the real estate research team for Newport Beach-based Green Street Advisors.

“Our portfolio is well positioned to take advantage of what appears will be a long cyclical upturn,” Arabia said.
