A developer that lost a bid to build a 5-story, 250-room hotel in Dana Point has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Santa Ana, a court filing said.
Beverly Hills Hospitality Group LLC paid $7.3 million for the site of the Dana Point Harbor Inn in 2007, CoStar Group records show, and sought approval for the new project, called the Doheny Hotel.
The city planning commission rejected the project in April 2014, and the developer withdrew its proposal in October.
The filing lists estimated assets and liabilities of between $1 million and $10 million each, and from 1 to 49 creditors with claims that include insurance, payroll, utilities and legal fees.
The filing lists an address for the company on Dana Point Harbor Drive and an attorney, Leslie Cohen Law PC, in Santa Monica.
Calls to the attorney, a Los Angeles phone number for the company, and Newport Beach public relations agency Government Solutions Inc., that news reports said had represented the company, weren’t returned.
