AROUND THE COUNTY

FULLERTON

Seal Beach-based Olson Co. has started construction on 34 affordable homes as part of a Fullerton Redevelopment Agency project. The homes are replacing apartments that used to be on the site. The city bought the 2.6 acres for $12 million and paid to relocate residents of the former apartments. The project is in a neighborhood that’s been targeted for improvement by the city. Olson was tapped to build what it calls Heritage Walk with houses ranging from 1,325 to 1,450 square feet and three to four bedrooms. They’re set to sell for around $300,000. KTGY Group Inc. in Irvine is the architect. A sales office is set to open in early April with model homes opening in late May.

HUNTINGTON BEACH

The city has approved plans for a family fun entertainment center off Edinger Avenue and Beach Boulevard. The center is set to take up most of a 65,000-square-foot former home furnishings store. Endless Food and Fun is expected to take up 46,000 square feet with plans to rent out the remaining space. The center is set to include laser tag, arcade games and a buffet. The project is estimated at $4 million and is set to open in August. Owner and developer Andrew Pereira runs a similar facility in Upland. NN Architects of Santa Ana is designing the project.

MISSION VIEJO

A Ralphs grocery store on La Paz Road and Marguerite Parkway is getting another makeover. The outside of the store is set to have improved access for those with disabilities, an enclosed cart corral, landscaping and $20,000 of facade work including a new sign. The project is estimated at $135,000 and is expected to take a few months to complete. Late last year, $1.75 million in interior upgrades were done to the store, including a remodeled deli and bakery, new check stands, ceilings and shelving. Ralphs, part of Cincinnati-based Kroger Co., is making the improvements. Huntington Beach-based DPA Architecture & Planning is working on the design. The contractor is AGI General Contracting of Stanton.

TUSTIN

A 2,565-square-foot retail building is in the foundation stage on Newport and Mitchell avenues. The building is going up next to a 10,473-square-foot building in the Strata Tustin Center. A Little Caesars Pizza is set to occupy the new building. The project is estimated at $500,000 and is expected to be done by May. Strata Properties LLC of Newport Beach is the developer and owner of Strata Tustin Center. Brisco & Brisco Inc. of Huntington Beach is the architect. JG Construction of Chino is the contractor.
