AT&T Golf Program Raises $697,000 for OC Scouts

The 14th Annual AT&T Golf Classic raised $697,000 for the Boy Scouts of America Orange County Council.

A related two-day program of events was held recently at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort & Spa and Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells.

“As we continue to heavily invest in our network infrastructure, we are also strongly committed to investing in our community’s future infrastructure—our young people,” said Andy Shibley, vice president and general manager of AT&T in Los Angeles. “We believe the Boy Scout programs build better leaders for the community and business.”

The AT&T Golf Classic, in its 14th year, raised $200,000 more this year, compared to last year. Events included a vendor fair, dinner, live auction and golf tournament.

“This event is crucial for the funding of numerous scouting programs serving the 30,000 scouts across Orange County,” said Jeff Herrmann, president and scout executive for the Boy Scouts of Orange County.

Participants at the event included John Stankey, AT&T group president and chief strategy officer; Dale Sohn, president of Texas-based Samsung Telecommunications America LLC; and Dr. Charles Park, chief executive of Atlanta-based Pantech USA.

Top sponsors for the event included Bloomington, Calif.-based Inland Valley Construction Co. and three companies involved in telecommunications—Celcite LLC of Herndon, Va.; Plano, Texas-based Ericsson Inc.; and San Francisco-based Jawbone.

Make-A-Wish

Tustin-based Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County and the Inland Empire raised more than $100,000 in March at its inaugural Cornerstone Society fundraiser.

Board members Daniel B. Kim and Joel Solomon hosted the event, held at Kim’s home in Newport Coast.

About 170 doctors, executives and philanthropists attended the event, including Dennis Kuhl, chairman of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Role Playing

Crevier Family Foundation donated $30,000 to Irvine-based Pretend City Children’s Museum, a hands-on and role-playing educational center.

Donnie Crevier is the former owner of Crevier BMW. His father Bob Crevier founded the Santa Ana dealership in 1971.

Donnie Crevier sold the dealership last year to Michigan-based Penske Automotive Group. He still owns the Crevier Classic Cars event site and auto-storage facility in Costa Mesa.

Company Campaign

Santa Ana-based technology consultancy Tekcetera Inc. has launched a 10-month giving initiative.

For 10 months—underscoring the company’s 10 years in business—Tekcetera and its employees will be giving time and donations to local charities. Its most recent giving venture was a toy donation to Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Planned activities for company employees include participating in beach cleanups and serving at local shelters.

Marathon Fundraising

This year’s OC Marathon, OC Half Marathon and the OC Wahoo’s 5K will be held May 6. The kids race will be held May 5.

The races run through Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine and Santa Ana. Sponsors of the race include South Coast Plaza, U.S. Bank, Ability Magazine and Allergan Inc.

Participants select charities when they register. Beneficiaries include Costa Mesa-based Project Independence, a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live independently; Junior League of Orange County, California Inc., which promotes women in leadership roles through volunteerism; and Newport Beach-based John Wayne Cancer Foundation.

Care Packages

Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro Inc.’s North America sales meeting at the Costa Mesa Hilton doubled as a care-package assembly operation on behalf of local Marines at Camp Pendleton. During breakout sessions Ingram Micro employees assembled 72 care packages, which contained items such as batteries, razors and Frisbees.
