32 of the largest construction companies in Orange County grew their local project revenue 7.3% to just over $10.5 billion for the 12 months ended April 30, according to the Business Journal’s latest list.
Of those, 16 saw revenue increases, including the following local firms: Brea-based KPRS Construction Services Inc., Irvine-based Snyder Langston, Santa Ana-based Moorefield Construction Inc., Costa Mesa-based Innovative Construction Solutions, San Clemente-based Consolidated Contracting, Irvine-based Bogart Construction, Irvine-based Ram Construction LLC, Irvine-based Morris Inc., Irvine-based Uprite Construction, Costa Mesa-based Slater Builders Inc. and Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction Inc.
R.D. Olson, Slater Builders, Uprite, Sukut Construction LLC and Ram are new to the list this year.
McCarthy Tops Ranking, Focusing on Hoag Irvine
Newport Beach-based McCarthy Building Cos. picked up a major boost in revenue, overtaking Hensel Phelps as the biggest commercial builder working in Orange County.
St. Louis-headquartered McCarthy, with a local base in Newport Beach, posted a 63% jump to $2 billion in revenue from OC projects for the 12 months ended in April.
“We believe that all markets will continue to grow in the healthcare, commercial, education and public works space,” McCarthy Senior Vice President Paul King told the Business Journal in written comments. “We are focused on finishing up our Hoag Irvine and CHOC Southwest Tower projects over the next year.”
Last year’s No. 1 ranked Hensel Phelps, headquartered in Greeley, Colorado and locally based in Irvine, dipped into second position as its OC revenue slid 7.2% to $1.4 billion.
Virginia-based Clark Construction, with local offices in Irvine, retained its No. 3 position. The company’s revenue from OC projects jumped 23% to $1.2 billion.
KPRS is the highest ranked construction firm headquartered in Orange County, moving up one notch to No. 4.
The Brea firm reported a 23% increase in revenue, coming in at $1.1 billion, compared to $877,000 in the previous year.
Consolidated Contracting of San Clemente
One firm saw such a significant gain, it climbed several rungs up the ladder.
Consolidated Contracting jumped from No. 26 last year to No. 17 as its OC project revenue increased 52% to just over $96 million for the 12-month period.
“Many of our projects were on hold until last year. We have also seen an increase in the size of the projects we are building,” a company spokesperson told the Business Journal. “We have hired some very skilled and talented people in the past couple of years. We are excited to be doing the renovation for San Clemente Villas.”
Pasadena-headquartered C.W. Driver, with a local base in Anaheim, stayed steady on the list at No. 10 as its 12-month revenue jumped 18.2% to $247 million.
