Cheri Tree: Blends ‘Art and Science’ to Boost Sales

Author, speaker, entrepreneur and innovator Cheri Tree has found a tech-based way to help salespeople sell more.

Tree’s San Clemente-based company, Codebreaker Technologies, specializes in what it calls “personality coding technology and artificial intelligence.” Tree created the personality coding technology, B.A.N.K., which stands for Blueprint, Action, Nurturing and Knowledge.

The personality assessment looks at various values including stability, freedom, learning, action, logic and relationships. The values are used to predict buying behavior and human engagement in nanoseconds.

B.A.N.K. is based on the “art and science of influence,” said Tree, Codebreaker CEO and founder.

Tree received one of the Business Journal’s 10th annual Innovator of the Year Awards before an audience of nearly 300 people on Sept. 12 at the Irvine Marriott.

Instead of assessing why people buy using psychology, Tree uses a method she refers to as BUYology, the science of buying behavior. This methodology is designed to predict why customers buy and what triggers the “yes” versus the “no,” according to the company’s website.

“The main value proposition of B.A.N.K. is that it is based on a person’s values and not their psychological profile or demographic data,” Tree said. “We are the fastest assessment in the world, taking less than 90 seconds to complete, and then providing the insight on how to interact and influence that person in five key ways: communication, business, relationships, emotional intelligence and leadership.”

Four Cards

“We have taken our quick assessment from the original four B.A.N.K. cards and digitized it into an online assessment that takes less than 90 seconds to complete,” Tree told the Business Journal on Sept. 13, the day after winning the award.

The company has about 10,000 paid clients who have attended its seminars/workshops, subscribed to its SaaS tech products, or gotten certified with Codebreakers, according to Tree.

The B.A.N.K. methodology was primarily designed as a sales tool, but it can also be applied to anyone interested in improving communication with clients or family members.

“We have delivered this assessment to nearly 400,000 people in more than 100 countries around the world,” Tree said.

The company has been issued two patents for its Codebreaker Authenticator to access data, according to Tree.

The company lists four primary divisions: Codebreaker Small Business, Codebreaker Direct Selling, Codebreaker Enterprise and Codebreaker Analytics.

Speaker, Author

Tree speaks around the world at business conferences and sales events, teaching audiences about B.A.N.K. and giving them access to the company’s tools, training and technology.

Tree wrote the book “Why They Buy” in 2015. It has sold more than 250,000 copies, both hardcover and digital versions.

The company had 2023 revenue of $2.25 million, with more than $3 million projected for this year and $5 million next year.

“We only have 3 full-time employees in OC. Also, we have over 125 Certified and Licensed Trainers as well, but they are all independent contractors who get certified and pay for the rights to teach our B.A.N.K. programs in their local markets,” she said.

Tree has a B.S. in Leadership and Business from Brigham Young University.

The Codebreaker Technologies CEO volunteers her time and teaches her B.A.N.K. system to faculty, staff, parents and teachers for the private Anneliese Schools in Orange County.

She launched her Codebreaker Foundation in 2024 with her Make Kids Matter philanthropic impact initiative.
