WHY: Founder of famed namesake surf and skate retail company, an icon in OC’s surf apparel industry. Recently started brand-new surf apparel venture with his brother Bill and fellow retail execs.
IN THE NEWS: Grew IPD Surf quickly through targeting independently owned specialty surf shops and existing industry connections. Delivered products to 46 out of 50 dealers upon initial launch; now counts over 100 business accounts in U.S. and internationally. Business doubled in 12 months prior to May.
NOTABLE: Helped establish U.S. division of Billabong before starting Hurley International in 1999. Created IPD logo over 40 years ago when he was a surfboard shaper in Costa Mesa.
