Syntiant Signs $150M Deal with Knowles

Microphones essential for voice, audio

Chip company Syntiant Corp. said it has agreed to acquire certain assets of Knowles Corporation’s (NYSE: KN) consumer micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) microphones for $150 million.

The microphones are essential for voice and audio applications in smartphones, smart speakers and wearables, among other market segments, including autos and household appliances, according to Irvine-based Syntiant.

The acquisition will let Syntiant offer customers a complete system for always-on audio and speech applications, combining MEMS microphones with the Irvine-based company’s existing AI capabilities in hardware and machine learning models.
