Nixon Library CEO Tapped by Trump for Archives

Takes over position after two exxecutives leave

Jim Byron, who has served as president and chief executive of the Yorba Linda-based Nixon Foundation since 2021, today was named interim manager of the National Archives by President Donald Trump.

Byron will serve as senior advisor to Acting Archivist, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). He will take a leave of absence from his job while the Trump administration searches for a full-time Archivist of the United States.

“Jim has worked with the National Archives for many years, and understands the great responsibility and duty we have to preserve the history of our great country,” President Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The most recent National Archivist was Colleen J. Shogan, who said she was fired on Feb. 7 by Trump, saying on LinkedIn, “No cause or reason was cited.” William J. Bosanko, the Deputy Archivist, assumed the role of Acting Archivist and announced his retirement on Feb. 14.

Joe Lopez, the Nixon Foundation’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications, will serve as its Acting President and CEO.
