Western Digital Moving HQ to Irvine

Western Digital Corp. said on Wednesday it would be relocating its headquarters from Lake Forest to Irvine’s Park Place office campus next year.

The disk drive maker signed a lease for 365,000 square feet of office space at Park Place offices that were acquired a few months ago by Irvine-based LBA Realty.

It’s the largest office lease signed in Orange County this year.

The company will be consolidating its headquarters and other offices in Southern California to the new location, at 3355 Michelson Drive, starting in late 2010.

The company counts about 1,250 local employees.

Western Digital moved to its current Lake Forest campus in 2000, and counts other local offices including space in Aliso Viejo.

The leases for its current locations expire starting in late 2010. Prior to moving to Lake Forest, the company was based in a high-rise office building in the Irvine Spectrum that was known to many as “the Western Digital building.”

The consolidation “will facilitate tighter team collaboration, improve operational efficiencies, rationalize facilities costs and offer flexibility for future growth,” said John Coyne, Western Digital’s chief executive, in a statement.

Western Digital signed a 10-year lease for the site, and was assisted in the transaction by the Irvine office of tenant brokerage Studley Inc.
