Manhattan Beachwear Inc. in Cypress named Kevin Mahoney chief executive, replacing founder Allan Colvin, who recently retired from day-to-day duties at the swimwear designer and manufacturer.
Manhattan’s annual sales have grown to nearly $700 million since Colvin sold a majority stake to Cleveland Ohio-based private-equity firm Linsalata Capital Partners in 2010, according to a Business Journal estimate.
Mahoney most recently served as chief executive at Big Strike Inc., an apparel manufacturer in Gardena with a roster of proprietary brands that includes Heart Soul, Soulmates, Workshop, Want and Need, Tracy Evans, Black Moon, Halo, Sugar High, and Star City.
He was president of NYDJ Apparel LLC in Los Angles from 2011 to 2012; chief executive of Hartstrings LLC in New York from 2006 to 2011; and president of Chaps Ralph Lauren from 2003 to 2006.
Manhattan’s proprietary swimwear brands include La Blanca, 24th & Ocean, The Bikini Lab, and Maxine of Hollywood. It also designs, manufactures and markets under licenses for Lucky Brand, Kenneth Cole New York, Kenneth Cole Reaction, Polo Ralph Lauren, Lauren Ralph Lauren, Trina Turk, Nanette Lepore, Sperry Top-Sider, and Hobie Swim.
