The Samueli Foundation in Corona del Mar gave $10 million to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at University of California-Los Angeles.
Henry and Susan Samueli started the foundation. He co-founded local chipmaker Broadcom and owns the Anaheim Ducks professional hockey team. The engineering schools at UCLA and University of California-Irvine were named after him following two gifts in 1999 that totaled $50 million.
The couple’s new gift will help establish 20 endowed faculty chairs as part of UCLA’s aim to add 50 faculty members and 1,000 students to its engineering school by 2023.
Henry Samueli earned three degrees in engineering from UCLA between 1975 and 1980, and co-founded Broadcom in 1991 while on the faculty at the school.
Broadcom was acquired for $37 billion earlier this year by Avago Technologies Ltd.
