Irvine’s R.D. Olson Construction, among the most active hospitality contractors in Orange County, has been adding work in Los Angeles County of late.
The construction affiliate of Bob Olson’s R.D. Olson Development, which is based in Newport Beach, this summer finished the new AC Hotel Los Angeles South Bay, a 98,728-square-foot, six-story hotel in El Segundo’s business district.
The 180-room hotel at 2130 Maple Ave. offers a “European-style, contemporary design,” according to the builder, which has an AC Hotel in the works in Maui.
In September, R.D. Olson Construction also wrapped the 8,000-square-foot lobby renovation of the Westin Downtown Long Beach.
The lobby redo is part of a larger, $23 million project for the 469-room property, overseen by another Orange County firm: Santa Ana-based Vanrooy Design.
The new lobby, which took about five months to complete, includes upgrades to the reception area, gift shop, car rental office, coffee shop, restaurant, bar, restrooms and entrance.
Focal points include a 15-by-30-foot living green wall, 25-foot chandelier, and a live strawberry tree.
Other nearby renovation projects for the Irvine construction firm includes the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel, Los Angeles Airport Marriott, and Kimpton Hotel Wilshire.
